Extreme E to make one-off return for final event in Saudi Arabia

Extreme E will run a one-off final event in Saudi Arabia on the 4-5 October to mark the conclusion of the series ahead of the launch of Extreme H.

Launched in 2021, Extreme E created an all-electric single-make competition for two-driver teams, one male and one female, competing in off-road races in challenging locations and terrains around the world.

The series, which aimed to highlight the impact of climate change while championing new technologies and approaches to sustainability, saw the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg enter their own teams, with Rosberg’s squad Rosberg X Racing taking the 2021 and 2023 titles while Hamilton’s crew X44 clinched the 2022 crown.

Extreme E will return for a one-off event called the Final Lap. It will take place in Saudi Arabia, which also hosted the first-ever event of the series, the Desert X-Prix in April 2021.

The event will “be an opportunity to celebrate everything Extreme E has achieved, at the same time setting the next frontier for Extreme H” which is set to officially launch later this year.

“This transition reflects Extreme E’s vision to use sport as a platform for innovation, awareness, and action,” an Extreme E statement read. “While the cars and energy sources may evolve, the commitment to purposeful racing remains unchanged.”

Full details of Extreme E’s final event, including teams, drivers and schedule, will be announced in the following weeks during the build-up.
