Hamzah Sheeraz says he will be ringside for the Canelo-Crawford fight and awaits the winner

Hamzah Sheeraz says he will be ringside for the Canelo-Crawford fight and awaits the winner

Hamzah Sheeraz says he’ll be attending the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight on September 13 with the intention of potentially fighting the winner of their superfight.

Hamzah is ranked #1 WBC, #2 WBO, #4 WBA, and #6 IBF at 168.

Berlanga Acid Test

Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) vaulted to the top of the super middleweight rankings with his fifth-round knockout win over Edgar Berlanga on July 12, 2025, in Queens, New York. Users on social media criticize the idea of Berlanga being used as an acid test for Hamzah to be given a title shot against the winner of the Canelo-Crawford fight.

Edgar had recently been soundly beaten by Canelo by a wide 12-round unanimous decision on September 14, 2024.

Fans feel that Sheeraz should have earned a crack at the Canelo vs. Crawford contest by facing these contenders at 168:

  • Christian Mbilli
  • Diego Pacheco
  • Osley Iglesias
  • Jose Armando Resendiz

Sheeraz’s Ringside Appearance

“I’ll be there. I’ll be ringside. I’ll be keeping a very keen, keen eye on it. As a fan, as somebody that could potentially face them. So, yeah, I’ll be there and I’ll be watching closely,” said Hamzah Sheeraz to Ring Magazine on X about his plans to be ringside for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight on September 13.

The Adames Draw

That fight was the 27-year-old Hamzah’s debut at 168 following a highly controversial 12-round split draw against WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames earlier this year on February 22nd in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Many boxing fans felt that Adames had deserved the victory in that contest. Adames had a significant advantage in power punches landed, connecting on 90 to 48 for Sheeraz. He outlanded Hamzah 143 to 135 in total punches.

After the fight, there was talk of Sheeraz fighting with a broken left hand. Interestingly, he chose not to fight Adames in a rematch to clear up the controversy. The excuse didn’t work with fans, who believe that Sheeraz had been exposed in that fight.
