Michael Owen brands Harry Kane ‘nuts’ for taking kids out of school and snubbing Prem record to win a title

MICHAEL OWEN claims he still does not understand Harry Kane’s decision to move to Bundesliga champs Bayern Munich two years ago.

The Ballon d’Or-winning attacker was one of many to question Kane’s decision at the time, with rumours of his hunger for silverware dominating the conversation surrounding the move.

Owen opened up on his position on the matter during his appearance on the latest episode of the ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents’ podcast.

He said: “I disagreed with him going to Germany, I was outspoken about that, I still think he was nuts.

“You are on the verge of being the all-time Premier League goalscorer, you have got kids that are all in school.

“I just couldn’t see it, I don’t see it.”

Kane scored 213 goals in 310 appearances in his Premier League career, which he has spent the vast majority of with Tottenham Hotspur.

The record for most goals in the competition is currently held by fellow England icon Alan Shearer with 260.

Kane’s 65 Bundesliga goals since joining Bayern would have been enough to push him into the record spot if he had stayed in England and scored at the same rate.

Owen jokingly added: “If you go up and move to Celtic and win the league are you like ‘I changed that’?

“They have won every year, there is no great achievement in that.

“A great achievement would have been being the top goalscorer ever in the Premier League, that would have been unbelievable.”

Michael Owen reveals he didn’t know what Ballon d’Or was when he won it and had to ask manager about it

Kane won the Bundesliga at his second time of asking, having been beaten to the award by Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen during their miraculous season.

But detractors such as Owen question what that feat proves, considering Bayern have won 12 of the last 13 Bundesliga seasons.

With the rate he is scoring and crafting his legacy overseas, it is difficult to imagine Kane dwells on his decision much these days.

Some fans believe he still intends to come back to make a run at the Premier League scoring record one day.
