Bishop’s Stortford lift Women’s Champion Club title

Bishop’s Stortford trio Harriet Buchan, Jackie Foster and Haley Yerxa were in fine form as their overall score of +1 secured the English Women’s Champion Club title at City of Newcastle Golf Club.

The Hertfordshire golf club finished six shots clear of 2nd-placed North Hants (Hampshire) after a terrific final day for Yerxa and Foster on Sunday.

Yerxa racked up four birdies and an eagle to post 70 (-3) on the second and final day, while Foster shot 72 (-1), as their two counting scores accounted for the only under-par score from any team across the two days of action.

Bishop’s Stortford had led after day one thanks to steady performances from Yerxa (75, +2) and Buchan (76, +3), sitting just a shot clear of North Hants and Chelmsford (Essex).

North Hants’ team of Aimee Paterson, Gemma Burgess and Georgina Carter impressed, with Paterson’s scores of 75 (+2) and 70 (-3), and Burgess’ pair of 77s (+4) ensuring 2nd spot on +7.

Chelmsford finished 3rd on +14 thanks to Lauren Gowers and Lily Frost shooting identical scores of 76 (+3) and 77 (+4) on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
