Ex-Man Utd star Victor Lindelof, 31, to join Premier League rivals on free transfer after two months unemployed

Ex-Man Utd star Victor Lindelof, 31, to join Premier League rivals on free transfer after two months unemployed

VICTOR LINDELOF could be about to swap Manchester United for Aston Villa.

The 31-year-old Swedish defender could not get a game under struggling manager Ruben Amorim.

But Villa boss Unai Emery still sees some value in the versatile ace who once cost the Old Trafford club £31million.

The unfancied Swede has been training with his hometown club, Vasteras SK, after his contract with United ran out at the end of last season.

And Fabrizio Romano claims Lindelof is undergoing a medical that will help him pick the Prem aside ahead of Serie A side Fironetina.

Lindelof was earmarked to be a major star when United snapped him up but he – along with so many other signings – has floundered.

Everton were still monitoring his situation but it’s Villa who seem to have pulled the trigger, just before the window closes.

Amorim sank to a new low last week when his was dumped out of the League Cup by Grimsby.

But an injury time winner against Burnley on Saturday saved the Portuguese’s job, for now.

The under-pressure gaffer said: “We need to understand that we always need to be at this level of effort.

“Because even in the game, we played well in the beginning. I think we struggled when we changed the characteristics of the players because the match is not so perfect and you can feel the players struggle a little bit, even in the second half but the effort was always there.

“We tried to put people in the box. We tried to put more people inside the box, not just around the box to play the ball.

From Man Utd outcast to Chelsea’s £40m gamble

“Some of the things we were doing during the week, and spoke about, they were doing that and were focused on the game.

“So that is the most important thing.

“At Manchester United everything is the news.

“Everybody talks about the goalkeeper and you can see even when I change the goalkeeper these situations happen.

“We are in that moment. It’s hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment.

“If you look at the goal, we can defend the box better.

“We suffered a similar goal against Fulham because we don’t do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side.

“These things don’t have anything to do with the goalkeeper.”
