Kobbie Mainoo tells Man Utd he wants to leave club on loan before transfer deadline in bid to save World Cup spot

KOBBIE MAINOO has told Manchester United that he wants to leave the club on loan before Monday’s transfer deadline, according to reports.

Mainoo, 20, has become unsettled at Old Trafford after falling out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim.

According to The Athletic, that has now led to the midfielder informing the club he wants to leave on loan to play regular first team football.

The England international is said to have held a meeting with club big wigs on Thursday.

And while Mainoo doesn’t want to leave on a permanent basis, he feels a loan move would be a better for developing his football career.

It’s claimed, however, that Man Utd have expressed to Mainoo that they will not sanction his loan exit.

The Red Devils are understood to value his place in the squad and expect him to stay and fight for a starting role.

Mainoo is thought to be in search of consistent game time in a bid to earn a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad next summer.

The Carrington graduate featured in all but one of England’s games at Euro 2024 under Gareth Southgate, but has not yet made the squad under Tuchel.

Minutes have been limited for the highly-rated youngster under Amorim at United.

Mainoo was an unused substitute for Man Utd’s opening two Premier League games this season.

While he played his first 90 minutes of the campaign in Amorim’s rotated side that were humiliated by League Two side Grimsby in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Teams linked with a switch for Mainoo have included Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

United had previously been open to selling Mainoo on a permanent basis in order to raise funds due to his academy graduate status meaning any transfer fee would be considered as pure profit in financial fair play terms.

The club are set to bank £40m in pure profit from another academy graduate instead.

Man Utd have agreed a deal to sell Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea for £40m.

Garnacho, 21, will join the Blues on a reported seven-year contract after waiting for a move to materialise all summer.

The Argentine had been pushing for an exit after falling down the pecking order under Amorim himself.

He becomes United’s fourth-largest sale in their history, bettered only by the exits of Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Angel Di Maria.

While his fee is the largest United have ever brought in for an academy graduate.

Chelsea have also agreed to insert a 10 per cent sell-on fee clause in the deal.

SunSport understands that Man Utd have managed to negotiate the price up to £40m after Chelsea initially bid in the region of £25m for the ace.

Garnacho scored six goals and registered two assists across 36 Premier League appearances last season.
