Chelsea and Liverpool still locked in row over Rio Ngumoha transfer with Premier League tribunal yet to decide on fee

CHELSEA and Liverpool are still locked in a row over Rio Ngumoha’s transfer with a Premier League tribunal yet to decide on a fee.

The 16-year-old, who turns 17 on Friday, started his career at Stamford Bridge in 2016 but signed a senior contract with the Reds last summer.

Ngumoha has settled quickly into life at Anfield despite his tender age.

And the teen stormed the Premier League with a dramatic winner against Newcastle on his debut.

It saw him become Liverpool’s youngest-ever goalscorer, as well as the fourth in Prem history.

But a shadow still hangs over Ngumoha’s 2024 switch to Merseyside as former club Chelsea chase a fee.

A tribunal was appointed a year ago to decide how much Liverpool owe their rivals.

But a decision is yet to be made.

And the Mail claims Chelsea believe they are now entitled to a much larger fee due to Ngumoha’s recent first-team impact.

Indeed, FA rules state that youngsters who make quick strides in their new surroundings are liable to cost more.

Their website states: “The status of each club; the age of the player; the amount of any transfer fee paid by the former club on acquisition of the player and the length of time the former club has held the player’s registration.

“(Also considered are) the terms of the new contract offered to the player by each club; the training and development of the player at the former club (specialist coaching, education, welfare); and the player’s playing record and achievements.

John Terry believes former Chelsea academy star Rio Ngumoha has what it takes to thrive at Liverpool

“(Other factors are) substantiated interest shown in the player by other clubs; other costs incurred by the former club directly or indirectly attributable to the training and development of the player, including any relevant medical or rehabilitation costs.]

“And attempts made to reach an agreement concerning the amount of compensation due.”
