Perez set to be announced as Cadillac F1 driver for 2026

Perez set to be announced as Cadillac F1 driver for 2026

Sergio Perez’s Formula 1 return with newcomer Cadillac in 2026 on a multi-year deal is expected to be announced, Autosport has learned.

Following several months of negotiations, Autosport understands Perez and Cadillac have finalised their talks, with an announcement coming later this week.

One key point of discussion was the length of the 35-year-old’s contract and it is now understood that Perez has accepted a muti-year deal covering at least two seasons with an option for a third.

This provides some continuity after what is expected to be a tough debut campaign for F1’s 11th team on the grid from next season.

Having taken a year out after his Red Bull departure, Perez is expected to partner fellow F1 race winner Valtteri Bottas at Cadillac, which will be based both in the UK and the US and will be powered by Ferrari engines.

Cadillac turned to the experienced pair as the Graeme Lowdon helmed team will have a huge challenge on its hands taking on the 10 established outfits, although the 2026 regulations reset perhaps provides the best entry point for a new operation.

It is understood both drivers will have equal status at the squad. Perez is expected to be presented imminently, allowing the Mexican to plug into the team’s 2026 preparations straight away and work with Cadillac engineers at the brand-new Silverstone headquarters.

Perez collected six wins during his first 14-year stint in F1, taking a maiden grand prix victory for Racing Point at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix before being signed by Red Bull to partner Max Verstappen.

He took another five wins for Red Bull before spiralling performances led to him being relieved from his duties at the end of 2024 despite a recent contract renewal, although his replacements Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda have since also struggled.
