Boxing Results: Jack Rafferty and Mark Chamberlain’s Bloody Draw

Commonwealth light welterweight champion Jack Rafferty (26-0-1, 17 KOs) battled to a 12-round majority draw with former WBC Silver champion Mark Chamberlain (17-1-1, 12 KOs), with Chamberlain getting one of the votes on Saturday night at the Planet Ice, Altrincham, in Cheshire, UK.

In the first round, with a minute remaining, southpaw Chamberlain landed a left to the chin of Rafferty, knocking him back a step. In the second round’s halfway point, Rafferty rocked Chamberlain with a right on the chin. In the third round, a right from Rafferty inside the left eyebrow of Chamberlain opened a cut.

In the fourth round, Rafferty opened a second cut on the right eyebrow of Chamberlain. In the fifth round, Rafferty drew blood from the nose of Chamberlain in taking another round. In the sixth round, Chamberlain has outlanded Rafferty, but not with the same power.

In the seventh round, Rafferty continued going to the body of Chamberlain. In the ninth, the action continued as Rafferty could possibly only stop Chamberlain on cuts. In the tenth round, Chamberlain landed several lefts on the chin of Rafferty, taking the round.

In the eleventh round, both had their moments, with Chamberlain’s face a bloody mess, but still holding his own in the punch count. In the twelfth and final round, inside the final minute, Chamberlain rocked Rafferty with a left on the chin, while Rafferty returned the favor in the final seconds with a right on the chin, finishing with much swelling under the eyes.

The scores were 115-114 Chamberlain, 114-114, and 114-114.

Commonwealth featherweight champion Zak Miller (17-1, 3 KOs) defeated former European champion Leon Woodstock Jr. (16-5, 7 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision in a bloody action.

In the first round, a clash of heads caused a cut on the right eyebrow of Woodstock. Woodstock landed an overhand right on the chin of Miller halfway through a close round won by Woodstock. In the third round’s final seconds, Miller landed a right, opening a cut on the right eyebrow of Woodstock.

In the fourth and fifth rounds, both had their moments, landing uppercuts with Miller on top, though suffering swelling under the right eye. In the seventh round, it was close, going back and forth with Miller holding a slight edge overall.

In the eighth round, Miller used right uppercuts as Woodstock continued coming forward. In the ninth, Woodstock had a good round, while Miller, who did a lot of pushing, suffered a cut on the right eyebrow. In the eleventh round, referee Latham finally warned Miller of pushing. Woodstock suffered a cut on his left eyebrow, along with one beside it. In the twelfth and final round, Miller finally came forward and took a close round in a bloody fight, both with nose bleeds up for grabs.

The scores were 117-111, 117-112, and 117-112.

WBA International super flyweight champion Jack ‘El Terrier’ Turner (12-0, 11 KOs) stopped Latino champ Nicolas ‘Demonio’ Muguruza (11-1, 6 KOs) at 1:30 of the 6th round of a 10.

In the first 4 rounds, Turner outworked a tough Muguruza, who is bleeding from the nose and mouth all over his trunks. In the sixth round, after a minute, a left hook from Turner on the chin dropped Muguruza for an 8-count from referee Michael Alexander. Seconds later, again, Turner dropped Muguruza for another 8-count as Referee Alexander waved a bloody-faced Muguruza stopped. Turner had bruises under both eyes at the end.

Super featherweight southpaw Nelson ‘The Sexy One’ Birchall (9-0, 6 KOs) stopped southpaw Federico ‘El Zurdo’ Pedraza (14-5-1, 2 KOs) at 2:19 of the first round of an 8.

In the first round, Birchall landed a left to the body, dropping Pedraza, who took the count from referee Mark Lyson.

Welterweight Henry ‘The Showman’ Turner (15-1, 7 KOs) stopped Ivan Blazevic (8-2, 3 KOs) at 0:54 of the third round of a scheduled 8.

Darren Sarginson was the referee.

Lightweight Steven ‘The Irish Takeover’ Cairns (12-0, 8 KOs) knocked out southpaw Kirk Stevens (7-5-1) at 1:40 of the fifth of an 8.

Mark Lyson was the referee.

Middleweight southpaw Olympic Bronze Medalist southpaw Lewis Richardson (2-0) defeated Artjom Spatar (5-17-1, 1 KO) by a six-round points decision.

In the first three rounds, Richardson controlled with his jab for the most part. In the fourth and fifth rounds, Richardson dominated with his landing attack. In the sixth and final round, Richardson drew blood from the mouth of Spatar, pitching a shutout.

Referee Mark Lyson scored it 60-54.

Middleweight Jack Power (6-0, 1 KO) easily defeated Dmitri ‘Dima’ Protkunas (8-23-1, 1 KO) by a six-round points decision.

In the first 3 rounds, the taller Power used an effective jab, keeping Protkunas on the defense. In the fifth round, Protkunas started returning punches, though still losing another round. In the sixth and final round, Power, looking for a stoppage, couldn’t put his opponent away.

Referee Darren Sarginson scored it 60-54.

2024 Olympic Bronze medalist featherweight Charlie Senior (2-0) defeated Darwing Martinez (8-35-2, 6 KOs) by a six-round points decision.

In the first 3 rounds, Senior had his way as Martinez fought back as well as he was able, losing all rounds. In the sixth and final rounds, in the final seconds, Senior rocked Martinez with a left hook on the chin, buckling his knees.

Referee Darren Sarginson scored it 60-54.
