Fury’s Training Footage: A Closer Look at His Potential Return

Tyson Fury posted a video clip today on Instagram of him doing a pad workout with his dad, John Fury. There were no words from the former two-time heavyweight champion Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) to indicate if he planned to come out of retirement for a trilogy match with Oleksandr Usyk or a mega-fight against Anthony Joshua.

The Training Clip that Started It All

In the clip, the 6’9″ Fury fired blistering fast combinations. Fury’s brief pad training clip has fans excited on social media today, creating speculation about ‘The Gypsy King’ returning from his seven-month retirement to fight Usyk or Joshua. Tyson retired earlier this year on January 13th. He’s still young at 37 and possesses world-class hand speed.

Turki Alalshikh hasn’t reacted to the post by Fury to remark whether he’d be interested in making an offer to set up a trilogy fight with him and Usyk. That’s the fight that Fury had said he wanted.

Why Fans Are Buzzing

“If I was going to come back, I would come back for Usyk, but I want a fair result in England. That’s the one I want immediately; that would be the fight I want next. In England for sure,” said Fury to Sky Sports on July 2nd. “I don’t believe I’ve got a fair shout the last two times.”

That comment had fans and the media buzzing, believing Fury was intent on coming back if he could get the third fight with Usyk.

On August 2nd, Fury ruled out making a comeback, telling Sky Sports, “Never. Too old, look at my beard, all gray. Boxing is a young man’s game.”

Tyson Fury’s Retirement History

Fury had retired three times prior to his recent retirement, only to come back later. The Gypsy King’s past retirements:

  • November 2013: After a fight with David Haye was canceled for the second time because of David’s injury problems. Fury came out of retirement on February 14, 2014, to defeat Joey Abell.
  • October 2016: Fury had been scheduled to fight Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch. Tyson vacated his WBA, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles. Fury came out of retirement in May 2018, defeating Sefer Seferi.
  • April 2022: After defeating Dillian Whyte in April 2022, Fury announced his retirement inside the ring, saying, “I’ve fulfilled everything I’ve ever wanted to fulfill.” Later that year, Fury came out of retirement to defeat Derek Chisora on December 2, 2022, in their trilogy match.
