Cobb & Fury Boxing’s Two Funny Men!

Cobb & Fury Boxing’s Two Funny Men!

In the past, I had known former heavyweight title challenger Randall ‘Tex’ Cobb, who was such a funny character with limited boxing ability. I remember Cobb being in a clinch with an opponent and saying ‘let’s get a couple of beers together after this one’!

It was November 6, 1981, at the Civic Arena, Pittsburgh, PA, with WBC Heavyweight champion Larry Holmes defending his title against Renaldo Snipes.

It was a card including Michael Dokes defeating George Chuvalo; Jimmy Young defeating Tommy Thomas; James ‘Buster’ Douglas losing to David Bey, and Cobb defeating Bernardo Mercardo.

Cobb walks into the press conference and says something like ‘look at this, some of the baddest N’s in the world, and then his usual laugh!’

Snipes replies ‘After I’m done with Holmes, you are next!’ Cobb says ‘First, you ain’t beating Holmes, but we can get it done right down here!’ Snipes sat down without saying another word.

We all know the actions from Tyson Fury during his career without saying. The difference is that he became a world champion.
