Dominic Calvert-Lewin rejected mega-money transfer to European giants to sign for Premier League new-boys Leeds

LEEDS landed Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the striker rejected a huge deal from Fenerbahce.

The ex-Everton man, 28, was offered a three-year contract worth £18million by the Turks.

But DCL has a young family and wanted to stay in England — so has settled for a fair amount less.

Calvert-Lewin is fully focused on succeeding at Elland Road and even clapped back at fan criticism of him not opting for a European switch.

In the comments of his Instagram post announcing the move, one fan wrote: “Poor move for you this.

“I think you thought you would have several European teams in for you but none came knocking”.

The striker swiftly shut down the nonsense dig, replying: “They did, and I chose Leeds. MOT.”

Calvert-Lewin has struggled to replicate his form of old in recent seasons, failing to notch double figures in the league since the 2020/21 season.

Last term the forward scored just three times in 26 Premier League appearances.

But Leeds boss Daniel Farke is convinced that the Yorkshire club is the right place for him to get back to his best.

He said: “It’s a chance for him to revive his career and reach his former heights, when he was outstanding at the Premier League level.

“And it’s a big chance for us because we’ve got a proven Premier League player.

“The key for him right now is not to be over-motivated.

“We will build his fitness step by step so that he finds confidence back in his body and his rhythm.

“If he does so, he has shown what he can do and he can be outstanding for us.”
