Liverpool vs Bournemouth LIVE SCORE: Ekitike coolly slots past Petrovic to put Reds ahead in Prem opener – updates

Liverpool 0-0 Bournemouth

28. The game is paused as Anthony Taylor comes across to the touchline to talk to the fourth official.

The referee then brings managers Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola into the conversation, but the topic remains unclear.

Liverpool 0-0 Bournemouth

25. Milos Kerkez has performed well in his first Premier League appearance for Liverpool, and against his former club.

The Hungarian looks a real threat going forward and has gone close to twice unlocking the Bournemouth defence with through balls inside the full back.

Liverpool 0-0 Bournemouth

20. The game enters it’s first lull, and so it’s over to the Liverpool fans to raise the tempo – and with it pay tribute to Diogo Jota.

Scarfs and shirts bearing the player’s name are held aloft as Anfield serenade a star taken too soon.

Liverpool 0-0 Bournemouth

17. Bournemouth may have lost three of the back four from last season as well as their goalkeeper, but it hasn’t hindered their attacking approach.

The Cherries look very sharp going forward.

Liverpool 0-0 Bournemouth

15. While the Liverpool players were still complaining about that incident involving Marcos Senesi, David Brooks manages to get himself booked for delaying the restart.

Liverpool 0-0 Bournemouth

13. Oooh, what’s happened here?!

The ball ricochets off Senesi, and Ekitike momentarily looks in through on goal – albeit from the halfway line.

Senesi manages to recover, although it isn’t immediately obvious how, and it’s only with the aid of a replay that viewers see the defender divert the ball with his fingertips.

The Liverpool players are adamant that it is handball – and potentially the denial of a goalscoring opportunity – but Anthony Taylor doesn’t see it.

Will the VAR officials help him out? No. They seem to be analysing the first bounce of Senesi’s body, rather than the intentional grab he made towards the ball in the aftermath.

A controversial moment. NOW the Premier League’s back, baby!
