Matheus Cunha is Dream Team’s pound-for-pound champion but will he flourish at Manchester United?

Matheus Cunha is Dream Team’s pound-for-pound champion but will he flourish at Manchester United?

MATHEUS CUNHA (£5m) is nothing short of a Dream Team sensation.

Last season, the talented Brazilian averaged 8.2 points-per-game, only Mohamed Salah (£7.5m) and Erling Haaland (£7.5m) rattled along at a better rate.

Given that those two superstars are the most expensive players in the game, one could claim that Manchester United’s new No10 is the reigning pound-for-pound champion.

Our final SCOUT REPORT before the 2025/26 campaign gets underway focuses on a player who ticks almost every box.

The top line is that Cunha amassed 294 points in 2024/25, a huge total given Wolves were not active in Europe.

The fact he was able to rub shoulders with some of Dream Team’s biggest names without additional midweek fixtures stands him in good stead for the season ahead as the Red Devils will not participate in Europe for the first time in over a decade.

Cunha scored 17 goals and provided seven assists but even that impressive return only tells half the story.

He ranked among the top five forwards in all the following metrics: shots on targets, big chances created, tackles and bonus points.

Cunha also ranked first in his position for accurate crosses, interceptions, fouls and goals from outside the box — only Salah denied him top spot for successful dribbles.

The 26-year-old is a jack of all trades and a master of most.

Whether he will continue to flourish at Old Trafford remains to be seen but the prospect of him linking up with Bryan Mbeumo (£5.5m) and Benjamin Sesko (£4.5m) in a new-look front three is a tantalising one, not to mention Bruno Fernandes (£6m) in a deeper role.

At Wolves, Cunha was very much the main man and, as such, was allowed a certain degree of freedom.

Ruben Amorim may give him a similar licence but perhaps he’ll be tasked with a more defined role.

Some gaffers may be concerned that there will only be so many goals to share around Man United’s new attacking unit but as previously stated, Cunha has multiple avenues to points.

At the time of writing, he features in 8.3% of teams which makes him the eighth-most popular forward in the game.

Man United’s opening fixture is far from favourable as they’re due to host Arsenal on Sunday.

The Gunners have conceded the fewest goals in each of the last two Premier League campaigns and so it’s logical that Dream Team bosses might be partially reluctant to back Cunha from the get-go.

However, the rest of August could yield healthy returns.

Gameweek 2 brings an away trip to Fulham and a Caracao Cup second round fixture.

And at the end of the month, Burnley will visit Old Trafford in what has to be considered one of the more inviting match-ups of Gameweek 3.

Cunha took Dream Team by storm last season but will he do the same this time around?
