Ryan Garcia is trying to snatch Teofimo Lopez right out from underneath Shakur Stevenson’s nose. Kingry Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) says he wants the fight against the two-division world champion Teofomo (22-1, 13 KOs), and sees himself as pure “kryptonite” for the Brooklyn, New York native.
“I seriously believe I would knock him out with my punch selection and output. With the way I throw punches, I would crack him,” said Ryan Garcia to Ring Magazine about his belief that he would knockout Teofimo Lopez. “I’m definitely his kryptonite. I’ve been wanting that fight for a long time.”
Ryan is all over the place, saying he wants a rematch with his conqueror Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, and calling out the 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao. His $20 million demand from promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, the other day made it clear that he’s looking for the same payday he got in his last fight against Rolly on May 2nd.
Although Garcia said he wasn’t serious afterward and just “trolling,” it seemed pretty obvious that he wasn’t kidding around. He’s not going to get that kind of dough in a second fight against Rolly because there’s been no interest shown by Turki Alalshikh to finance the match.
So, Ryan is wisely turning his attention toward Teofimo because that’s a fight that he might get that big $20 million payday. With $50 million fortune, you’d think that Garcia is rich enough not to be trying to hustle other big purses.
Shakur won’t be too happy about Garcia calling out Lopez, as he’s been campaigning like a seasoned politician trying to entice him. Stevenson has been using the phrase, “Let’s make boxing great again,” to motivate Lopez in a sneaky, spider-type manner.
It’s a method to awaken a call of duty to lure him to fight for legacy purposes. In reality, it’s psychological trickery by Shakur to get a big payday. It’s not going to work. Once Teofimo finds out that Ryan is interested in fighting him, he’ll forget about Shakur and focus on that fight. At least he wouldn’t have to chase Ryan around the ring all night.
