Canelo Alvarez’s Relaxed Training and Massive $150M Payday Before Terence Crawford Mega-Fight

Canelo Alvarez’s Relaxed Training and Massive 0M Payday Before Terence Crawford Mega-Fight

Canelo Alvarez looked confident and relaxed today, playfully messing around in training for his mega-fight against Terence Crawford on September 13th. Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) seemed happier today in the training camp than he has in many others.

Canelo’s Massive Fight Purse

The money that undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo has might have something to do with why he’s looking in high spirits. His purse is in the range of $100 to $150 million. With that kind of money, it’s understandable why the Mexican star is so happy.

Terence Crawford: The Older Opponent

A bigger reason is that Alvarez is facing a weaker, older, smaller opponent than the guys he’s been fighting over the last decade. Crawford, 37, is an old timer and a weak one at that compared to past Canelo opponents, Gennadiy Golovkin, Dmitry Bivol, Sergey Kovalev, and Edgar Berlanga. Even Alvarez’s last foe, William Scull, is a bigger puncher and faster than Crawford.

“I think Canelo wins by a decision. He pounds on him, and he starts to go away in the seventh or eighth rounds,” said Abel Sanchez to Johnny Boy Boxing, predicting Canelo Alvarez will defeat Terence Crawford. “If you notice Canelo’s last seven fights, even before Bivol, after the fifth or sixth round, it’s a sparring match for him.”

Crawford Must Avoid a War

If Crawford chooses to go to war with Canelo, he’ll get knocked out for certain. He’s not faced a puncher like Canelo before during his career, and he’s been hurt by smaller fighters like Yuriorkis Gamboa and Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

“He’s throwing punches like he has nothing to worry about. Throwing caution to the wind, and he’s been hurting people that way. So, I think that’s what happens in this fight,” said Sanchez.

Canelo Will Have to Chase

Against Crawford, Alvarez will have to do some chasing because it’s unlikely that the Omaha, Nebraska native is going to stand and trade. He’s going to try to duplicate the performances of Bivol and Floyd Mayweather Jr. by boxing Alvarez.

“I don’t think that Canelo or Eddy [Reynoso] or Chepo will take a chance of him getting cut and jeopardizing the next fight or him landing a wrong punch because he’s going slower than he should,” said Sanchez when asked if Alvarez has been carrying his opponents.

“They’re smarter than that. They’re doing everything that they should, not taking chances, but not going less than 100%,” said Sanchez.
