It was their first competitive match of the 2025-26 season for the Green Lions.
And it was also their first FA Cup match for eight years due to financial troubles.
But Tuesday’s replay in London did not go ahead as planned.
That is because Guernsey admitted there had been an error with the registration of one of their players.
Initially, the replay was pushed back by a week to get to the bottom of the issue.
However, Guernsey have now confirmed they were booted out of this season’s FA Cup.
A club statement said: “We have just received official confirmation that the club has been removed from this season’s competition, and that Bedfont Sports Club FC has been awarded the tie and will progress to the Preliminary Round.”
Bedfont Sports will host Kingstonian on August 16.
But fans could not believe the costly blunder.
One said: “Schoolboy error.”
Another replied: “After all the hype… a real big let down.”
A third more compassionate supporter added: “Unfortunately, it happens. You can’t really blame club admins as all are normally volunteers – it’s happened twice to my local club.”
But a final user wrote: “What a ridiculous mistake to make @GuernseyFC. Obviously haven’t learnt anything from watching Jersey’s similar mistake last season?”
That is in reference to fellow Channel Island side Jersey Bulls being docked three points for fielding a suspended player.
The punishment denied Jersey the Combined Counties Premier South league title – but they did still get promoted through the play-offs.
The first round proper of this season’s FA Cup is on the first weekend of November, with Premier League and Championship clubs entering in the third round in early January.
The final takes place at Wembley on May 16, 2026 – with Crystal Palace the current holders after stunning Manchester City in last season’s showpiece.
