CHUBA AKPOM’S future has sparked major drama just days before Birmingham City and Ipswich Town kick off the new Championship season.
The Ajax striker was on the verge of joining Birmingham, with a deal agreed and a medical booked.

But just as it looked done, Ipswich swooped in with a late move.
That twist led to Akpom’s Birmingham medical being cancelled, and a new one scheduled with Ipswich who appeared to have stolen the signing at the last second.
However, the Blues didn’t give up and came back with a better offer hoping to win the tug-of-war.
Akpom reportedly prefers Ipswich but his current club Ajax want to to accept the Birmingham deal.
In the end, the forward completed a medical with Ipswich and now looks set to join the Tractor Boys.
Despite all this – Birmingham STILL haven’t thrown in the towel.
Reports suggest the Midlanders are leaving the door open for one final twist as they look to land the English forward.
And now, in a perfect bit of football theatre, Ipswich travel to Birmingham on Friday night for the opening game of the season- with emotions running high on both sides.
This drama threatens to overshadow the ongoing saga involving Newcastle United and Manchester United who are both keen to sign Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko.
The 22-year-old was reportedly keen on joining Manchester United earlier in the summer.
But Newcastle have since shown consistent interest, especially now, with Alexandre Isak likely to leave the club this summer.
However both Manchester United and Newcastle have so far failed to meet RB Leipzig’s £85million valuation of the player.
