The San Francisco 49ers recently agreed on an extension with George Kittle. All the focus should now be on coming to an agreement with his quarterback, Brock Purdy.
Purdy has led the 49ers to a Super Bowl and two NFC Championship Games. He was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but has exceeded everyone’s expectations. However, it is now time for him to get paid. Former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert predicted Purdy would get a four-year, $210 million extension with the 49ers.
Benkert was one of Purdy’s backups in 2022. He was part of the team’s practice squad in the offseason and during the season. Purdy did not become the starter until injuries forced him into the role, but he has never looked back. He was even named a Pro Bowler in 2023.
A $210 million deal would give Purdy the 14th highest total value in the league among quarterbacks. The $55 million average annual salary would be tied for second-most in the league with Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. That is an elite group of players for Purdy to be part of.
Purdy has essentially saved the 49ers. He started his career as the third-string quarterback. However, injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo forced him into the starting job. Not many expected the 49ers to remain a Super Bowl contender with Purdy, but he led them to the NFC Championship game as a rookie.

However, an elbow injury in the NFC Championship cost the 49ers their season. The following season he led the team to the Super Bowl, but the team fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. Last season, Purdy struggled, but he was dealing with injuries, just like the rest of the 49ers roster.
