The Philadelphia Eagles (6-2) face the Dallas Cowboys (3-5) at AT&T Stadium looking to hammer what could be the final nail in their NFC East rival’s miserable season on Sunday (4:25 p.m., EST).
The Eagles enter the game rolling, playing their best football of 2024. They’ve won four straight games, notching a plus-4 turnover margin (with no giveaways) and plus-54 point differential over that stretch.
The Cowboys have been reeling. They’ve lost three straight games, and their season is in serious jeopardy with starting quarterback Dak Prescott dealing with a potentially serious hamstring injury.
The Dallas injury report has been lengthy all year, with star players like Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland missing significant time. The Eagles have dealt with their own injury issues this season, but had their full 53-man roster on the practice field on Thursday — including tight end Dallas Goedert and wide receiver A.J. Brown.
Here’s a full team-by-team injury breakdown, with the latest updates off of Friday’s final practice reports:
Eagles vs. Cowboys: Full injury designations
Dallas Cowboys
Out
- QB Dak Prescott (hamstring)
The Cowboys are expected to be without their starting quarterback well beyond Sunday, as he continues to seek opinions on how to proceed from a partial avulsion of the hamstring tendon. He hasn’t yet been placed on injured reserve, but that’s the expectation. Dallas’ teetering season is now in the hands of backup Cooper Rush.
Bland has yet to play in 2024 as he continues to struggle with a stress fracture injury from training camp. He was working with the Cowboys’ rehab group in practice this week, but continues to log DNPs on the injury report. Caelen Carson got the start opposite Travon Diggs against the Falcons last week but got cooked by Kirk Cousins. Jourdan Lewis is a solid nickel, but a Cowboys defense allowing the seventh-most yards per game has sorely missed Bland, who led the NFL in interceptions (9) last season.
- DB Juanyeh Thomas (concussion)
Thomas was injured last week while making a tackle on special teams. That’s the area the team will miss him the most against Philly, as Thomas works his way through the NFL’s concussion protocol. Thomas was a good find by Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He fills a reserve safety role on defense, logging 34 total defensive snaps this season.
Questionable
- CB Trevon Diggs (calf, illness)
The Cowboys’ top corner was limited in practice this week with a calf issue, but was downgraded to a DNP on Friday and tagged as questionable for Sunday with an illness. It’s a potential red flag for Dallas, as running back Rico Dowdle was a late scratch due to an illness back in Week 8. Friday’s practice was only a walkthrough, though, so it’s possible the team is being cautious with Diggs heading into the weekend.
- LT Tyler Guyton (neck, shoulder)
Both Guyton and right guard Zack Martin entered the week with shoulder ailments, but only Guyton wound up with a designation for Sunday. He was able to log 73 snaps in last week’s game against the Falcons. It’s the neck issue that slowed Guyton in practice this week, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. If he’s unable to go, second-year player Asim Richards would be up, with guard Tyler Smith also a candidate to step outside to left tackle if needed.
Parsons returned to practice this week and is expected to return against the Eagles. That’s huge for a Cowboys defense that can’t stop the run and ranks 24th in the NFL in sacks. He hasn’t played in a game since September. Getting Parsons back would be huge for Dallas as it looks to combat a red-hot Eagles offense.
- LB Eric Kendricks (shoulder)
Kendricks appeared to be trending in the right direction this week after sitting out Wednesday’s practice. The veteran has had a rocky first season as the Cowboys’ starting middle linebacker, with Pro Football Focus docking him for 11 missed tackles through seven games. Dallas is thin at the position and could turn to special teamer Buddy Johnson for snaps on defense if Kendricks can’t go.
Virgil was unable to practice at all this week, but the 31-year-old’s potential absence shouldn’t be a major factor on Sunday. He’s filled an adequate special teams role this season, but he’s been up and down off the practice squad and hasn’t played much on defense since a rough outing in the season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
Philadelphia Eagles
Questionable
- LB Ben VanSumeren (concussion)
Several Eagles players were rested in practice this week, but VanSumeren was the only player on the 53-man roster to draw an injury designation. He continues to work through the NFL’s concussion protocol, and it’s worth noting that teammates DeVonta Smith and Lane Johnson both missed the next game after suffering head injuries this season. VanSumeren did return to a full practice on Friday , though, leaving the window open that he could get cleared in time for Sunday. He’s been a key special teams player, backup linebacker and occasional fullback for Philly this season.
On a side note, Goedert, Brown, Smith, quarterback Jalen Hurts and pass rusher Nolan Smith all avoided injury designations despite capped practice time this week.
