June 23 Notes

– Dropping off the list: Tylor Megill (243rd), Max Meyer (265th), Taj Bradley (266th), Gabriel Moreno (267th), David Festa (277th), Calvin Faucher (278th), Jack Leiter (285th), Dylan Lee (286th), José Caballero (287th), Emmet Sheehan (295th), Romy Gonzalez (296th), Brayan Bello (297th), Chase Meidroth (298th), Jameson Taillon (299th)

– Maybe I should have kept Faucher on the list, but I’m not messing with a Marlins reliever if they’re going to mix and match, as they did with using Faucher in the eighth and Ronny Henriquez in the ninth on Sunday. I’ll gladly acknowledge that Henriquez is the Marlins’ most talented reliever, but before getting his second save on Sunday, his previous three appearances came in the second, fifth and sixth innings.

– I’m nervously placing Corbin Carroll seventh for now while awaiting word on if his hand injury might be worse than believed.

– It’d sure be nice if James Wood had more help in D.C., but he’s up five spots after a four-homer week. The one disappointing thing there is that he hasn’t added to his total of nine steals this month, having been caught on his lone attempt.

– Yankees manager Aaron Boone won’t say Paul Goldschmidt is being platooned with Giancarlo Stanton back, but the first baseman has been held out of consecutive games against righties twice recently. I’m putting Goldschmidt at No. 143 for now. He’s a weak option in mixed leagues at the moment, but if he goes back to playing regularly, he’d immediately return to the top 100.

– Not keeping Chandler Simpson in the top 300 following his demotion at the end of last month feels like an obvious mistake now that he’s being recalled by the Rays on Tuesday. I’m sliding back in here at No. 182, and he’ll probably perform as a top-120 player if he starts against all righties for the rest of the season.

– I didn’t want to slide Christian Encarnacion-Strand down in the rankings, but Terry Francona is leaving me with no choice by sitting him the last three games. Meanwhile, Spencer Steer has been allowed to remain an everyday player while showing no upside for about a year and a half now. Steer has 61 hard-hit balls and 72 strikeouts this year, which is just awful. The league as a whole has 27% more hard-hit balls than strikeouts. CES has 37 hard-hit balls and 22 strikeouts. I don’t want to totally give up on Steer as a fantasy asset because he’s in a great situation for hitters and can steal some bases, but as things are now, he deserves to be sent down when Noelvi Marte is ready to return.

– It’d seem to be time for the Rays to drop Taj Bradley in favor of Joe Boyle, so that’s what I did this week. Boyle has a 1.83 ERA and an 81/25 K/BB in 64 innings for Triple-A Durham. He debuts here at No. 268, and he could climb into the top 200 once promoted.

Chase Burns debuts near at the end of the rankings at No. 282. Cincinnati isn’t a great situation for pitchers, and Burns will give up some homers on his fastball. I’m really excited to see him, though.
