Rangers are still looking for their first three points of the Scottish Premiership season following a 1-1 draw with Dundee.
Scorers: Astley 51′ ; Tavernier 90+2′
Despite having 78% possession in the first-half, Rangers couldn’t manage a single shot on target.
Instead, the best chance of the half went to Dundee as club captain Clark Robertson struck the post with a firm header.
Dundee took an early second-half lead as another Robertson header was met by Ryan Astley who found back of the net with a lofted header.
Things went from bad to worse for Rangers as Nasser Djiga was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Finlay Robertson who was through on goal.
However, in the final minute of regulation, Rangers were awarded a generous penalty which was confidently slotted into the bottom-left corner by James Tavernier.
Rangers thought they had scored a dramatic stoppage time winner until Cyriel Dessers’ finish was ruled out for offside.
Ultimately, following an opening day draw at Motherwell, Russell Martin is still looking for his first league win as Rangers’ manager.
However, in spite of their poor league form, Martin’s side can advance to the UCL playoffs when they face Czech side Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday.
